Vinoteca Marcipane – the “Maria ihm schmeckt´s nicht” restaurant
Vinoteca Marcipane – the “Maria ihm schmeckt´s nicht” restaurant:
Having read Jan Weilers book “Maria ihm schmeckt´s nicht” some years ago, I liked the idea when I heard there is a restaurant somewhere at the Starnberger See. Jan Weiler and Corbinian Kohn opened this Restaurant/Vinoteca 2007 and finally last weekend we made it there for a visit.
Vine, beer, interior, service, the creations by the chef and the chocolate cake were all superb. The menue is drawn to a board in the middle of the restaurant. About 2 main courses, 2 starters and a cheese plate that´s it, so simple can it be. Not to forget the chocolate cake and the homemade pralinés. We will come back sometime!
Sunday cake – Mirabellenkuchen mit Schlagsahne
Sunday cake – Mirabellenkuchen mit Schlagsahne:
Marias landlord told us to pick some of the little yellow plums (Mirabellen) in the garden, and so we did. To reach the top of the tree Maria sat onto my shoulders. With our filled basket we then went to her mother to help us. Leni´s cake recipe for fruit cakes were used – great outcome! Schlagsahne – whipped cream did the rest to make the cake perfect for a sunday (even for a monday but he will not survive the day).
The recipe is:
250 g butter (melted)
250 g sugar
250 g flour
4 eggs
Stir the eggs with the sugar well to build some foam. Mix it with the melted but cooled down butter. Put the fruits on top, around 45 minutes in the oven. Temp? Hmm 170 Celsius in the middle of the oven.
Gently mix the flour in.
Learn to forge with mastersmith Tom Carstens

Learn to forge with mastersmith Tom Carstens Degerndorf:
Saturday we attended with some friends a workshop by blacksmith Tom Carstens in Bavaria – Degerndorf. The forge shows Tom´s passion for his profession in every detail. The old hammers, anvils, the restored and still used pressure hammers (Golem II) or the dragon in the forge. He uses the old tools but also new technology to be efficient.
With a small group of only 4 he had time for everyone of us through all the course. The basics of blacksmithing envolved through the day. We made a fireplace poker and shovel and the last object was a archaic knife.
On the way back to lake constance the workshop didn´t let us go and this morning plans to create a place to continue to forge/blacksmith are in progress.
Thanks Tom for your time and sharing your knowledge. We really can recommend Tom to everyone who want´s to have an intro into forging but also want to improve his skills.
He does workshops for kids as well.
A short movie found on Youtube showing Tom Carstens.
Undusting my homegym
Undusting my homegym:
It has been a lazy 4 weeks, I did not do any sport. But this week I started again to hit the punching bag and to train a bit. Feels great and the weights and tools needed some attention. To quick spiders and plants take over my litte home gym. No need to pay some fool monthly for training machines and “free” energy drinks. All it needs is some iron and dedication. Sometimes a friend who kicks your ass is also quite a motivation.
Turning 40 next year there is a unfinished project. I really have to do my first Muay Thai fight. So i better get back in shape. I even think about letting my beard grow until the day of the fight. We will see.
If you are sick of gyms and need some inspiration, check Ross Enamait Website

They recently added another room so even more space for offering their selection of fruits, vegatables and they even add a cafeteria.

Braun RT 20 Radio
Braun RT 20 Radio by Dieter Rams 1961:
I always wanted a tube radio, so a couple of years ago I found this Braun RT 20. The usual tube radios with their mostly dark brown and rustic design were a lesser option. I love the design but the soul of this radio as well. It takes about 10 seconds to start making sound (sometimes I forgot that I switched it on by then) and It takes some adjustments to the frequency after some minutes.
Only about 6600 pieces were built around 1961 by Braun Frankfurt – Germany.
Most will know the famous Schneewitchensarg record player SK-4 by Dieter Rams.
I have to retune the frequency …
Mary caught some Kretzer, Flußbarsch or Egli fish
Mary caught some Kretzer, Flußbarsch or Egli fish:
While I was struggling on Sunday with a “bit” of a hangover, Mary went fishing and caught not huge but a lot of Kretzer – Flußbarsch or Egli´s (i guess it is calle Perch). They were a bit too big to be eaten like sardines (the whole) but great in taste. Thanks a lot for this!

Amtraq and Merz b. Schwanen Showroom visit Munich:
Yesterday we visited Uwe and Alex from Amtraq, and Dirk from Merz b. Schwanen in their temporarily Showroom in Munich. What a great combination, just a bit hard to handle all that great stuff in one place, too much to see. The Dehen jackets, the indigo dyed Merz b. Schwanen shirts, the Rising sun stuff … Thanks for the great time!
