Cafe Jasmin Munich – München:
Thanks to my sister Gloria I finally made it inside to the Cafe Jasmin. I walked by a couple of times but never made it. We´ve been in this wonderful place last saturday for breakfast. Just perfect, good food, drinks, music and the people and staff as well. Highly recommended if you are in Munich sometime.

Yesterday we were on an antique, classic, retro, vintage or heritage (whatever) ski team race cup in Fischen close to Oberstdorf in the Allgäu region. Each team consisted out of 4 athletes. A nice atmosphere, a lot of fun and great cloth and equipment. They raced down in a group of 4 and the time was stopped when all of them reached the finish line. Just close to the start the competitors had a stop to have an energy drink – Schnaps.  With only wooden skis some sportsman and sportswoman showed great skills. It was a relaxing event with kids, families, clubs and workmates competing against each other in a funny way. We definitely will have a look again next year.

I swear I thought a  Red Wing 8103 recommended by Eric would be my next. But when I saw the above 8138 Red Wing even 1 size too small I had to buy it. This boot for about 80 Euros in nearly mint condition , no wear on the leather just a bit on the soles. Great patina, lighter brown at the toes getting darker to the heels.
I really wonder how he had worn them?
They came done with the laces for “step in” and tiny “loops”.
The denim color on the inside of the shoe tongues also puzzles me, does someone really wears his jeans really that high or inside the boot?
How can you leave so little marks on the leather, never any crawling home from a bar/nightclub?

Received these nice boots about 3 month ago and using them mostly outdoors an now since a couple of weeks on work with the boats they had to withstand a lot. As a friend from Damn yak says “treat them like you hate them”, they will only look better. Check out their look when they were new and decide for yourself. Thorogood boots new.

First of all thanks a lot for the hint of Chris from Damn Yak, via his website in Canada I discovered this great vintage backpack from the Swiss Army. The toughness and the design is outstanding – I did not find one faulty attachment point or seam. Everything is done in a Swiss “perfectionistic” way. It was really designed for lasting a lifetime. Regarding that this rucksack sells for less than 40 Euros on Ebay I would say there is no backpack with a better value/style factor. The stamp on the pack says “L MAUERHOFER SELLERE GOLLION 73“. I would rate this backpack with a capacity of around 50 Liters and I´m sure without any problems It can handle easy 20 kg of stuff. Due to the canvas belt which acts as a suspender or a distance holder of the lower back it feels quite comfortable.

If you are searching for a daybag, I would go for the smaller version of this backpack.

First of all I was always concerned about boots with the white vibram sole, regarding the grip, look, comfort and the durability. So when I found a real cheap offer in the States for about 70 USD (50 Euro) I could not avoid to give them a try. I checked some reviews about the Thorogood heritage boots from Weinbrenner and ordered them.
A little after a week of wearing them I can say the following:

– it’s not a real Moc Toe as other manufactures do, the rim is just “folded” and not of 2 pieces of leather. Have a look at image 4.
– the leather is quite “soft”, so no real break in.
– they smells a bit of rubber not 100% leather and glue (this might come from the insole)
– my concerns about the white vibram were wrong, it’s extremely comfortable (did not try it on mud yet)
– on the right shoe, the first hook on the left is not in line to the other side (it might be the reason this pair was so cheap – could be B-Ware) speaking of about 5 mm.
– the shock sole might add to the comfort but I think of changing it to a leather one
– compared to the sizing of Red Wings I would say they are a little bit smaller and less wide (10,5 US – D)

So overall I’m quite happy, and I would say it’s a real bargain. If you are in the States or Canada or doing a trip over there, give them a try. I will post some Images in some month as
a reverence of how the break/wear in.
