Vollkorn – full grain distillate by Schmidt & Sons

I was able to finally try the brand new Distillate by Eugen Schmidt Söhne and decided I had to have a bottle of this fine one afterwards. It is made out of various full grains from the south german region, a special “soft” water and great distillery skills to bring out a taste of grain, flour, bread “into the bottle”. With it´s 40% alcohol it´s still a soft and mild spirit absolutely worth a try and beyond comparison to the typical german “Korn”. We were around 8 years old when Jeff and I were chased by a angry dog – we made it. More than 30 years later my friend Jeffrey Robertson bailed out of the IT-Business and started his own shop last month. A fine selection of high quality, colorful and innovative products. The focus is on bags, handbags, backpacks, wallets and accessories.

Zeller art and antiques auctions:
The love for “vintage” stuff might have been influenced a lot by working for Zeller art and antiques auction for about a decade. Surrounded by thousands of objects which move through the auction house every 3 month will not get by unrecognized even by a nerd. Realizing that some stuff is affordable and even quite cheap if you compare the craftsmanship involved in creating those pieces I started to hunt. It is not just the präservation of a (our) heritage it is also a kind of recycling. Bargains on flea markets are hard to find, with ebay being a price guide most sellers have a good reference for the price. Auction houses tend to start low with a price to attract bidders and if you are lucky you might be the only one who bids.

The images above, I took on a visit just give a quick impression “behind the scenes”, some more great stuff is still coming in and to show approx. 3500 – 4500 lots is impossible. Bidding online is possible but visiting a traditional Art Auctioneer like Michael Zeller who does his job since more than 40 years is a thrilling and sometimes entertaining performance.

Visiting the King – The Artist Helmut King:

Fascinated by the display of a “cigarette box people” by Helmut King about 8 years ago, since then this artist was always around. Either on the WM 2006 in the streets of Bregenz, in art restaurants and bars or on his exhibitions. Last year I met him and got a signed copy of his “cigarette box people” book and yesterday I more accidentally was told that I could join a private visit to his atelier. He showed us his amazing range of art he created within the last decades and to the end he juggled for Paul. Thanks for your time and inspiration. (c) by Helmut King

Mountain panorama this morning:
What a great panorama view on my way cycling to work. The water in front is the lake of constance (Bodensee), behind the newly snow covered alps and the big one is the Säntis. I better hurry up to make some more hiking trips this autumn or snow shoes are the other option.

The winegrowers of the bavarian part of the lake of constance did a private party in a vineyard for their friends last sunday. Great day, weather, wine, sound, folks, organization, and food. I hope there will be See la vie 2.0. Thanks a lot to the winegrowers Deufel, Haug and Lanz.

Mrowka´s Hoflanden – How shopping for food should be:
I´m so glad that farmers are still around and direct shopping opportunities from them are widely available and increasing. One of my most favored farmer shops is Morowka´s Hofladen. They recently added another room so even more space for offering their selection of fruits, vegatables and they even add a cafeteria.

Mondays, Thursdays, Wednesday and Fridays 10-12 am and 4-7pm

A walk in the park – Lindau Bad Schachen:
Just some random images I took while walking around the house and trough the Lindenhof Park. And last but not least – some Curry Wurst barbecue at a friends place. Sometimes nice stuff is just in front of you but since it´s there all the time you have to rediscover the beauty of it.

Vintage German matchsticks – Zündhölzer:
Found this cool matches / matchsticks today. Must be at least 20 – 30 years old. Full of smart ass phrases, like
“hast du zündhölzer – hast du feuer!”
– you got matches – you got fire!

“wer immer stets vergleiche zieht – im fachgeschäft den vorteil sieht”
– who constantly compares sees the advantages of buying in a specialist store

“der kluge kopf kauft nur im fachgeschäft”
– the smart head buys only in a specialty store.

The phases could not be more relevant than they are today. I guess at the time these matchsticks were produced – Internet was still far away and supermarkets outlet stores and malls were as well not too omnipresent.
