I attended with Feinschmuck the Bread & Butter Summer 2014 and was part of the Amtraq Dist.stand in the Fire Department area. A great event with so many good brands. Unfortunately I did not have the time to wander around and take more images. Here just a quick glimpse into some of the brands I was close to or really caught my eye.
DC4 Japanese Denim Store – Berlin
Union Special Hemming Service
Just before the Bread & Butter started in Berlin I made a quick visit at the DC4 Store.I was very lucky to meet Olaf there who was kindly enough to share some of his very detailed knowledge about denim and esp. Japanese Denim with me. And even more luck I had that right at the moment the store owner Daniel needed his pair of jean hemmed by Olaf. So I could document the steps of hemming which DC4 does quite exclusively in Germany (please let me know If you knew other Stores who offer chain stitch hemming service on a Union Special sewing machine).
– quick after this post Tim contacted me that Jeanspaleis is doing a similar service in the Netherlands. Check his post a while ago about their service – here:
With every pair of jean you buy at DC4 (marked by the print on the inside pocket) you get the hemming there for free. Other options to upgrade/customize it, are the leather patch service, you can get one or all patches which are laser made sewn on your jean.
So if you are a serious denim lover here is the place to get some really special crafted Japanese Jeans and the advice needed to make your final decision.
An now comes the sad part. Just a day after I made those images the shop got robbed. I do not know if the shop was left totally empty but as I wrote all Jeans have got the DC4 print on the pockets. So please check any premium Japanese Jeans you buy or getting offered and report it to DC4 in case you spot the their Stamp or tries to remove of a print.
I arrived yesterday in Berlin, before heading to the Tempelhof I decided to use the time for the Christoph Schlingensief Exhibition at the KW Institute for Contemporary Art in Berlin. The exhibition will be ended by 19th of January and will then be shown at the MoMA NYC, so now is the time to have a look at his works. The Church of Fear is located outside so I had the chance to already have a look before entering the exhibition. Already I can say, he died too young …
Well announced, this merged pack of style arrived today, thanks to Anie Fields from Peter Fields Berlin for your quick shipment of these magazines. Here just a quick glimpse into those great magazines, buy them to support their work of putting together about 400 pages of style into two/one magazine. It´s worth it – enjoy.
Here some preview images from some solid bronze items byFeinschmuck. Each single piece is unique by the traditional wax cast process. Skillful patinated and by so already unique in its look. Use the hooks to safely attach your wallet, keys or knife with a leash or chain to your jean. Right now they are available with cherry blossoms and surfaces from ray and ostrich.
Hardly you see a brand who manages to combine canvas, leather and solid brass hardware so well together – for sure a Japanese Brand. I hope they will be at the Bread & Butter January 2014 for a closer look. Thanks to Takao for pointing me to Superior Labor Website.
As with exceptional things, they get remarkable when they are connected by a good story they can tell. Thanks to Thomas for guiding me around a bit through the denim world @ the Bread & Butter Summer 2013. Before his tour I was just fascinated by LVCnew collection and especially the yellow Western Shirt made of silk and so nicely done embroidery. But via Thomas I understood the story of the Bing Crosby Denim Tuxedo made by Levi´s. A limited edition of this Tuxedo will be produced by Levi´s, an Investment and for sure it gets a well hunted collectors item.
Here the short story about this Tuxedo and Bing Crosby´s connection to it.
After he was told to be not dressed appropriate in his Levi´s Jeans by a Canadian Hotel Clerk and was nearly rejected to get a hotel room for the night, Bing told the story Levi´s and they went into action and crafted him a Denim Tuxedo. The President of the American Hotel Association even put a Label inside and granted him – Bing Crosby entrance to all Hotels in America in this Tuxedo.
You have to see and to feel the collection of Natic Marine designed by Tadanori Domyo. So rich in details and crafted so well. I had the chance to take some detail images of his naval/maritime influenced designs. Probably the most fascinating pieces was an oxford style shirt with southern crosses, mermaids and anchors woven into the fabric. But as with most of the Japanese Brands it is so hard to find them over here in Europe, but I really hope that their performance in Berlin @ the Bread & Butter June 2013 has payed of and we will see their garments being distributed here as well.
EDIT! Takao Tsubouchi from Jayprojectjust contacted me, he is distributing Natic and other Japanese premiums brands and is located in Milano (Italy), so he is your contact over here.
