Denim Lecture by Pike Brothers @ Kings & Bastards

For a long time it was on my agenda to visit Uwe Scheuermann´s Kings & Bastards shop in Leinfelden close to Stuttgart. Very last minute I got told that Uwe was able to get Fabian the man behind the Pike Brother Brand to hold a lecture about denim @ K&B. Uwe was kind enough to not just invite me but also suggested to bring some Feinschmuck with me.  Combined all those pros and no cons I had to go there – finally. I was Overwhelmed by the effort Alexandra did to welcome the guests with some bavarian flair / buffet and the shop itself. Uwe managed to pick some very nice and authentic bands for his store. Quite visible is his ability to collaborate well with those brands. (as he did with us as we made the Kings&Bastards Zippos and Belts for him).

Fabian from Pike Brothers already prepared his lecture about Selvage Denim and the selected guests started arriving in time. In about an hour Fabian started with the differences in cotton fibres, the weaving of selvage denim and various aspects of the evolution of the Jeans. Very informative and usually helt for sellers to educate them it was the first time Fabian did speak to customers in that way. It was a really nice evening with nice talks, good people within a superb location and a relaxed way. Thanks to all who made this event happen.

Ecke32 Manufacture Store Visit Konstanz

We did not visit Lars Nehren and his Manufacture Store Ecke32 for nearly a year, so it was great to see him again and the transformation/change of his store. Some brands have taken over others since then. The former, let´s call it the “peak performance” room is now for womens wear only, which goes very well with the stuff for the dudes. Lars Ecke32 made it quick to the shops you should see when you are in the south of Germany, the “Dreiländereck” (Lake Constance surrounded by Germany, Austria and Switzerland). Ahh and I should not forget to add, he is restocked with some Feinschmuck items now!

Brands quite evident there are: Momotaro, Filson, Tellason, Dehen 1920, Trickers, Red Wing, Schiesser Revival, Pike Brothers, Levis Vintage Clothing, Merz b. Schwanen, Gitta Plotnicki, Feinschmuck, Edwin, Wolverine, Nabholz, Nigel Cabourn, Canada Goose and Inis Meáin just to name a view. The full brand portfolio you can view here.

Some images of a former visit @ Ecke32 here.

I´ve met Fabian from Pike Brothers at the Bread&Butter two weeks ago and my intentions was to tell him how I honor his/their products which are authentic, durable and affordable. His statement was more or less that his roots are within the classic hot rod scene for which he developed cloth where “form follows function” those guys wear his garments at work and are happy they are worth the price by outlasting cheaper stuff they bought before by far.

And another thing was to check their Elephant skin fabric which they use now in trousers, vests and jackets but somehow I became hooked by the texture of their new
1937 Pike Brothers Roamer mohawk check Shirt.

If would not have seen that shirt at their stand I would have guessed it has Japanese roots. (see it as a compliment). What a great fabric, soft, nice in detail and breathable. For sure perfect at temperatures to wear which we have right now (+30 Celsius).

At the Fire Dept. I had the chance to have a talk with Fabian from Pike Brothers and he invited me to Fein und Ripp at the party. Traditional Bavarian food and beer was served there by Fabian and it was the place to go at the wednesday after the Bread & Butter fair.

Fein und Ripp can be described as a well stocked Pike Brothers homebase. But as you can see it´s another unique shop far away from being normal which is surely worth a visit. The interieur is carefully selected and seems natural in there. Family run by father and his two sons with a great dedication to quality and deadstock items. Check their news section for keeping updated about their latest finds.

Seil Marschall – an overview part 1

A true gentleman who continues the company tradition in its 4th generation, which was founded 1896.

This is just an overview of the shop / warehouse and part 1 of several posts. The following ones will go more into details about their own products like the backpacks, shoes and jackets.

Apart from the Seil Marshall products which are crafted not to far from Ravensburg, you can find other items in the shop which complete the range of products very well. Shoes from Alden or boots from Red Wing, jeans from the Pike Bothers, and lots of other exclusive menswear brands.

Find below the statement from the Seil Marschall website, which really describes the company philosophy very well and it’s quality standards.

“We still make the quality worn by our grandfathers”

We are making the finest quality since 1896.

In the most companies the quality has changed into quantity. We are still a small company in the modern sense and haven’t changed to much.

Our quality is not possible to produce in big quantities.”Our best machines are still our hand”. We take the finest natural materials and accessories available and take us enough time to manufacture long lasting products. In all our goods we put in many time and functional details to protect you in the extremest conditions – “we still make the quality worn by our grandfathers”.

More than 100 years we are still a family business ( in the 4th generation).
