Resole of my Red Wings 1908 by bespoke Shoemaker Werner Sibla

This saturday I finally could pickup my pair of Redwings 1908 after they have been masterly redone by bespoke shoemaker Werner Sibla.

I did an interview about Werner Sibla about a month ago be-cause I really liked his shoes and the way he incredibly resorted or redid some shoes for customers. We spend about 4 hours of talking and he was very open to share some of his skills and tools he uses. A couple of days later he agreed to have a look at my ruined Red Wings 1908. The sole was ripped off and overall the leather, the rim and the heel suffered quite a lot within the last 4 years.

I just told him that I wanted an extra layer of leather in the sole and the heel and left the rest of the job to him. It turned out superb. Just let someone who knows his job do his job. His main business is to make bespoke shoes and he also got a very good reputation for restoring premium shoes like Alden, John Lobb or Crocket and Jones just to name a view.

I guess he really liked to work with my boots and also liked the result.  So when I asked him if I may publish his name and website to friends and readers, he agreed to. Im really excited what further projects will be shown on his Instragram or on his recent job section on his website.

Recently I had the chance to meet Stefan Feichtinger in a showroom in Zürich. He distributes Red Wing Shoes in Austria and Switzerland. There I had the chance to have a glimpse and take some images of the Red Wing 8057 Oxford style shoe. The Roughout Hawthorne Leather will for sure develop a great look after some wear, not that dark but probably a bit like this Red Wing Iron Rangers.

Finally my first Red Wing Oxford, a 3112. I was close to 100% sure its a Red Wing 8103. The 3112 from 05/2005 in no longer produced as I could find out. The differences are the logo print on the heel of the shoe, the different pattern of the sole, the more cushioned rim of the heel,  the red red wing logo on the sole and thanks to Eric, only a single line of stitching not two for attaching the shoe with the soles. He also mentioned that this shoe is from the former working boots collection which was only available in the US.

The shoe is nearly new with the original box and the leaflets from red wing. For me it looks like this shoe was much more difficult to produce, except from the double line of stitches. So i´m still in decision to sell it and buy a 8103 in 10 1/2. Or to break this kind of deadstock shoe in.

Can someone please make some comment about a difference of the leather ?
Is it also a “Oro Russet Portage Leather” with the same thickness as the 8103?

A true gentleman who continues the company tradition in its 4th generation, which was founded 1896.

This is just an overview of the shop / warehouse and part 1 of several posts. The following ones will go more into details about their own products like the backpacks, shoes and jackets.

Apart from the Seil Marshall products which are crafted not to far from Ravensburg, you can find other items in the shop which complete the range of products very well. Shoes from Alden or boots from Red Wing, jeans from the Pike Bothers, and lots of other exclusive menswear brands.
