It makes me really sad to see “my Instanbul” and the people of Istanbul suffer. I had great moments there. Once on a backpacking trip to Turkey and by luck I ran intoFatih Akin and had a great time with him and his filmcrew while they filmed The Edge of Heaven in Istanbul. And once celebrating new year 2010/2011. How can you not fall in love with a city with such a great history, with so good food, so friendly people and so rich in culture? And it makes me angry seeing someone attacking it. My fullest support, at least a bit, to the people on the streets of Istanbul – sadly only digital but worth a try.

If you look at the images above closer you might recognize the be-cause blog logo.  Other stories like one of the best straight razor shaves (ok it was a shavette razor) or the story of the find of my Zeus ring at the grand bazar by meeting a Armenian silversmith. I hope the best for the liberty and safety for the people of Istanbul and Turkey.

Hiking to the Mörzelspitze:
We just did a short hike to the Mörzelspitze. The dogs (Kitty and Paul) accompanied us on this foggy and mixed with sun and clouds tour. Nothing too spectacular on this hike but it is just about 30 minutes to drive from Lindau. Heading towards Austria – Dornbirn and drive up to Ebnit. Great rivers and rock formations on the way up to the beginning of the tour. About 4 hours and I would say about 800m in altitude maximum. A picknick at the summit (close to it) and on the way down a Rüblikuchen (carrot cake). A nice day outdoors with the dogs and feeling of accomplished something.

straight razor shave at a barber shop in istanbulAt least once in your lifetime (assuming your are a man) your should have a straight razor shave from a skilled barber. The best deal you will get is in Turkey.

While in the rest of Europe it is quite expensive or out of use, in Turkey it is still very in common practice to get a shave done.  So the barbers are very skilled, it is cheap, they have fun when you come in as a tourist, you will learn techniques for your own shaves and you even get a glass of tee (chai) for free as well.

While India is also a very “interesting” option, I can not recommend Thailand. It seems to me that they are not used to our dense hair, so cuts, blood and skin irritation is mostly guaranteed.
