Aero Leather – Kolesch Leder forgotten Collaboration:

Recently I visited the Kolesch Tannery in Biberach which is the last remaining “altsämisch” Tannery in Europe. Please take the time to have a look at the video of master tanner Kolesch (speaking in Swabian).

The tour around the Tannery was very impressive, to see a such old craft still in practice. Here some images I took for a different project called Bodenseh-Kultur.

The altsämisch tanned buckskin by Kolesch is a real superior product used by Kolesch for their traditional cloth but also highly valued by others. But honestly I could not believe my eyes to see 8 Aeroleather Jackets in their showroom. Hardly there is a chance that there is someone walking in there to real value these jackets and buy one. So I promised Mrs. Kolesch to write a bit about those rare jackets which probably were made for the Japanese market my Aero out of Kolesch tanned leather.

So If you are interested to buy one or all of them contact them.

Sizing and colors are:
2 x light brown 44 + 38
3 x dark brown 48 + 42 + 34
2 x dark grey 36 + 46
1 x black 36 (this one has a bit of different details)

With Uwe and Eric we went to the short fashion show at the B-74. It was helt for the int. press, which was guided trough the city of Frankfurt to selected locations before the MTV Awards the following day. The B-74 by Kami Hashemi is a bit hidden in a backyard. But a shop connected with the Red Wing Store Frankfurt which Kami runs since 1998 gets attention. Once you entered, you will see why customers are doing the pilgrimage to this shop. Top brands with history and quality are presented in a unique way. Just have a look at the cabriolet inside the shop, the counter, the flipper or the antique Hamburger Schapp filled with Filson bags.

Here an overview of the brands: Aero Leather, Atelier LaDurance, Converse, Dockers K1, Dehen, Dukes, Edwin, Filson, Johnson Motors Inc., Knowledge Cotton, G.R.P Firenze, Levi´s Vintage Cloth., Merz b. Schwanen, Nigel Cabourn, Red Wing Shoes, Rin Tanaka, Schiesser Revival, Stetson

Aero Leather Highwayman horsehide jacket brown:

Last spring I ordered a Aero Leather Highwayman horsehide jacket at a visit in munich, from Burghard Plug – Gasoline Alley. The process of finding the “right” jacket took years. Aero leather jackets are regarded to be the “Rolls Royce” of all. I totally have to agree, the craftsmanship and the quality of the materials used are hard to top. Regarding the price I even would say it is a bargain. Endless options to customize your own jacket which you have to deal with the next decades need some advice. So I strongly recommend to visit one of the Aero Leather dealers for advice. For good images beside the original Aero Leather website check Kentaurus by Stefan Laskowski in Cologne.

Three month later I finally got a call from Burghard and he told me the jacket arrived. I have to say at the beginning the leather jacket did not fit very well but because of the extremely thick leather it takes a bit of break in time. The true character and fit of the jackets develops over the time. The jackets weights around 4-5 kg with heavy front quarter horsehide. At the beginning it was hard to lift the arm and to touch the back of the neck collar – just to give you a picture. The jacket still feels like a body armor but the resistance has decreased a lot. Nice abrasion marks and “folds” are creating and the jacket is “falling” more naturally.

If you wonder why the jacket has no cord or chain for hanging it on a hook. No way! The weight of the jacket would deform the jacket, just throw it on the floor, thats it. I will post more images over the time to trace the changes.

Gasoline Alley – München

Gasoline Alley München / Munich a true shop for dudes by Burghardt Pflug. A must see if you are in Munich. The few photos I shot are only a glimpse of the treasures he has hoarded in his shop. And they are even for sale. The collection of old and new leather jackets and red wings are in the back of the shop and are not shown here.
