Hiking and Paragliders
Hiking around Andelsbuch and watching the Paragliders:
Yesterday we went for a short hike to the Bregenzerwald and went to the Niedere. The area on top of the mountain is a popular spot for Paragliders. We aways saw them flying when we entered this area or left it, but never that close. Amazing panorama from up there, a full 360 view. I have to go back there very early to watch a sunrise.
Hiking in the Moostal area

Hiking in the Moostal area:
Going hiking at about 30 C – some close people called me “your are crazy”. Luckily Maria and some friends felt forced to join be-cause it was said to do so. After buying some great lunch at the market we started late to not catch the full heat on the 20km walk. Unluckily we arrived too late at the Darmstädter Hütte – the kitchen was closed already but we got some pasta. After some cold beer – which we all earned and some red wine we had an easy sleep. On sunday we started quite early to pass the snow covered Kuchenjoch and to hike trough the Konstanzer Hütte and back to St. Anton. At the Konstanzer Hütte there was a small 1st. of July party with some folk musik, beer and barbecue. A great weekend!

Cabin time with friends – Grabs – Austria

Cabin time with friends – Grabs – Austria:
Last weekend like the last 3 years we rented the local DAV (Deutscher Alpenverein / German Alpine Club) cabin with some friends and had a great weekend with backcountry alpine skiing, hiking and skiing. Of course some great food, wine and schnaps was also playing a role. Due to the schnaps and quite a hangover I was not too motivated to take photos on Saturday morning, sorry for that. But after 1 1/2 hours of walking uphill with the skis all systems were nearly working as normal. Great to be with friends up in the mountains and great to have clubs like the DAV who let you rent their huts/cabins for a reasonable price.
ski touring in the bregenzer wald – austria

Ski touring in the Leckner Tal, Bregenzer Wald – Austria:
Yesterday Maria and me had to go for some ski touring be – cause the weather conditions looked perfect and 2 days ago we had snow in the higher regions. So we grabbed our dusted ski touring equipment and gave it a go. From Lindau about 40 minutes to drive and you are right in the Bregenzerwald and in the Lecknertal. The ascend to the summit was about 2 hours, a quick tour but right to check the stuff and make adjustments for the next time. Check my skins on the ski´s and you know that there is wax missing on the skins, you do not want to drag all the sticky snow up the hill. No problem on a quick tour but a already a pain in the ass. The panorama at the summit was great, the sight was ok not to clear. You might remember this place from the end of summer post.
Hiking – Sibratsgfäll – “Austrian summer”

Last weekend we went for a autumn hike to the Bregenzerwald – Austria and walked from Sibratzgfäll to Schönenbach. It’s the perfect walk in autumn and for snowshoe because you walk in a not to hilly valley by the river with a nice flora beside. It was like an “Indian Summer” in Canada, just in Austria. Thanks to Maria and “Kitty the dog” to drag me out of the bed for this walk. The night before there was quite a party going on with a traditionally dish for autumn “Zwiebelkuchen & Most” (German cider and a cake with lots of onions, bacon an cumin).
Kopssee winter – Austria
Hiking in the Moostal – Darmstädter Hütte

With some friends we went 2 days of hiking in the area of St. Anton – Austria – Tirol. One of my favorite mountain huts is the “Darmstädter Hütte” (2.384m). The scenery is just amazing – a couple of 3000m peaks surrounding the hut, a perfect view in the valley, a rustic over 100 years old hut and the welcoming Weiskopf family which runs it since 3 generations… just to name a few things.
First day was rainy but the idea of having a cold beer and some “Knoedel” dumplings if we can make it before 7pm did motivate us a lot. We made it and were welcomed by Andi with some Schnaps to warm us up and soon we made the order for dinner. This year the choice between cheese-, bacon-, liver- and Tirolean dumplings was made even more difficult to choose when he told us they have this year a mozzarella with tomato dumpling. They are just so good, believe me. And if you haven’t had enough try their “kaiser” a Kaiserschmarrn (kind of fluffy pancake) which is more than enough for 2 person or a really hungry one.
Next day we hiked and climbed the area, had a great pick nick and a swim in the lake which you can assume was very refreshing. On sunday we had to leave, weather turned bad again and we were soaked while walking down the valley. But the atmosphere was mystic and on the way we saw dozens of mountain salamander, so much we had to take care we did not step on one.
All together a great trip, just 2 nights and 3 days but a real vacation.
