Free & Magazine Nov. 2012 Gift by Eric Jost:
Friday morning there was a letter from Eric Jost from Life Time Gear in the mailbox. Inside the November Issue of the famous Japanese Free & Easy Magazine. Unfortunately no time to read it be-cause I had to leave to the shipyard. Right after work, without even washing my hands I had to have a closer (and careful) look at it. What a great magazine with images of unique items and characters (e.g. Hajime Tsukada). No way to read the Japanese Text but the images talk for themselves. Thanks Eric for this great gift and inspiration.

This is the story of Maria´s final choice for a classic black high heel by Pollini. Milano is great be-cause all the top brands have stores there and are quite close together. Equipped with a pair of Red Wings Pecos, easy to go back and forth to pick the final one – finally. What a great combination Red Wing + Pollini.

Straight Razor – hair test

Straight Razor – hair test:

To check the sharpness of your straight razor simply grab the hair with the hair root facing the palm/floor and the thinner end towards the sky. If you have no decent long hair for this test – have a look at the other half of your bed you should be able to find some from a/your lady. Gently move down the hair to the razor blade and you should hear the “pling”. If not grap the hair either a bit more to the end and give it more weight for the blade or turn it around. If still not successful give it to an expert for a resharpening and let him teach you of how to keep it sharp with the leather stromp. I read the blade should last for about 1000 shaves before a resharpening is needed again. So give it a try for the full joy of a clean shave rather than a “ripping of the hair feeling”.

Welcome to the shave club – Whiskey shave soap

It´s no secret I like knifes and blades and I get the pest when some marketing freak tells me I need a safety razor with 5 blades for a shave.

So Eric from Life Time Gear hit the spot when he gave me this Whiskey shave soap from Portland General Store as a present on our Frankurt trip 2 weeks ago. Meanwhile, I gave it a try and it performed very well, the lather was very dense, only comparable to the good stuff used by millions of turkish men The Arko shave soap I use normally. The decent smell of whiskey and the packaging will make it my first choice for the next +100 straight razor shaves. Thanks Eric!

A while ago Feinschmuck did these samples for Coca Cola. The confirmation for a licence to produce these belts and rings hasn´t been given yet. So not for sale, but nice to look at anyway and a great design and craftsmanship.

Harris Tweed – a romantic history

Harris Tweed – a romantic history:
I thought I understood the rules for a Harris Tweed, but I missed the fact that the Tweed has also to be handwoven. Or as seen on this video “footwoven” by cycling the loom.

“Handwoven by the islanders at their homes in the Outer Hebrides, finished in the Outer Hebrides, and made from pure virgin wool dyed and spun in the Outer Hebrides.”

After about 2 month of constant wear of the Tellason chore coat, now called Tellason Coverall jacket I have to say it performs very well. The big tool or utility pockets are perfect to store gloves, dust masks and other stuff. The seams, pockets, denim and rivets are all without any damage. As you can see on the images, I´m right handed by the marks of the grey nautic paint. Thanks again to Amtraq & Tellason for the “donation”.

Here the earlier post about the Tellason Chore coat / Tellason Coverall jacket.
