Hiking in the Moostal area

Hiking in the Moostal area:
Going hiking at about 30 C – some close people called me “your are crazy”. Luckily Maria and some friends felt forced to join be-cause it was said to do so. After buying some great lunch at the market we started late to not catch the full heat on the 20km walk. Unluckily we arrived too late at the Darmstädter Hütte – the kitchen was closed already but we got some pasta. After some cold beer – which we all earned and some red wine we had an easy sleep. On sunday we started quite early to pass the snow covered Kuchenjoch and to hike trough the Konstanzer Hütte and back to St. Anton. At the Konstanzer Hütte there was a small 1st. of July party with some folk musik, beer and barbecue. A great weekend!

We will go hiking right now, but super last minute Manfred from Feinschmuck gave me a first sample of step one for making a special Zippo. The patina of the brass looks like not well treated parts on a ship in saltwater conditions (Or as Eric once said “angeranzt“). This is only step one, we are still brainstorming what motive shall be included on one of the sides of the Zippo. Suggestions are welcome!

Hohentwiel Schaufelraddampfer – paddlewheeler
Being sunday on the lake for a bit of sailing the Hohentwiel came really close to us. The Hohentwiel was build in 1913 and was once the stateship of King Wilhelm II. of Baden Württemberg. Put out of service in 1963 it was restored in the 80th until 1988 and is since cruising on the lake of constance. Inside the ship you can see the engine working and see the full beauty of a perfect restauration. Do not miss the chance of one of her dinner or jazz cruises on the lake – could be an unforgettable time.

Last weekend I had my first regatta and was ment to be close to 20 hours on the lake. Maria from Feinschmuck gave me this silver Amulett/Talisman on that day.
The Ullr, Uller or also called Wuldor is an is an ancient nordic god from around the 3rd century. He is mostly shown with a bow and on skies. He is the god of glory, the winter, the hunt and the fight.
Check the english entry on Wikipedia for a very comprehensive explanation about him or the shorter in german.

Going to south France for a week and I will probably see Frank from MotArt Journal. Have a good time see you soon. Ah, and I will have to dicide if my drink will be a Gin Tonic, Cuba Libre or a Pernod ? Hmm too many choices.

Dieter Rams – Ten Principles of Good Design

Dieter Rams – Ten Principles of Good Design:

1.

Good design is innovative

The possibilities for innovation are not, by any means, exhausted. Technological development is always offering new opportunities for innovative design. But innovative design always develops in tandem with innovative technology, and can never be an end in itself.

2.

Good design makes a product useful

A product is bought to be used. It has to satisfy certain criteria, not only functional, but also psychological and aesthetic. Good design emphasizes the usefulness of a product whilst disregarding anything that could possibly detract from it.

3.

Good design is aesthetic

The aesthetic quality of a product is integral to its usefulness because products we use every day affect our person and our well-being. But only well-executed objects can be beautiful.

4.

Good design makes a product understandable

It clarifies the product’s structure. Better still, it can make the product talk. At best, it is self-explanatory.

5.

Good design is unobtrusive

Products fulfilling a purpose are like tools. They are neither decorative objects nor works of art. Their design should therefore be both neutral and restrained, to leave room for the user’s self-expression.

6.

Good design is honest

It does not make a product more innovative, powerful or valuable than it really is. It does not attempt to manipulate the consumer with promises that cannot be kept.

7.

Good design is long-lasting

It avoids being fashionable and therefore never appears antiquated. Unlike fashionable design, it lasts many years – even in today’s throwaway society.

8.

Good design is thorough, down to the last detail

Nothing must be arbitrary or left to chance. Care and accuracy in the design process show respect towards the consumer.

9.

Good design is environmentally-friendly

Design makes an important contribution to the preservation of the environment. It conserves resources and minimizes physical and visual pollution throughout the lifecycle of the product.

10.

Good design is as little design as possible

Less, but better – because it concentrates on the essential aspects, and the products are not burdened with non-essentials. Back to purity, back to simplicity.
