Cafe Jasmin Munich – München:
Thanks to my sister Gloria I finally made it inside to the Cafe Jasmin. I walked by a couple of times but never made it. We´ve been in this wonderful place last saturday for breakfast. Just perfect, good food, drinks, music and the people and staff as well. Highly recommended if you are in Munich sometime.

post WWII German Army boots from Baltes

After about half a year in the trunk of Ferdi´s car, who is a very skilled but too busy shoemaker I finally got these boots back. They are the bigger brothers of these boots. These have got really thick leather, nearly as thick as a belt, about 2 mm. The color used to be black but on very stressed areas it was worn off and is brownish shining trough. When I bought them I was considering to give them a treatment with black shoe cream but luckily I left them their character.

Now with the new soles and fixed heels (I guess they will darken a bit after a while) they for sure will last a lifetime. I gave them some treatment with neutral leather oil, they fit like a glove and you really have another example how skilled they were making boots at Baltes around 1960.

Straight Razor blades collection – and the beard had to go

Last week I looked at my dusted razor blades and thought – are you mad at me ? After about 3 month of no use of a razor blade I decided they need more attention. Not to say that just 2 days ago I bought a comb to trim the beard. So after 5 minutes the beard was gone no major cuts, just two and honestly I really did not like my face afterwards. It looked 10 years younger.

Three straight razors are worth to be mentioned:
Bismarck super “best german hollow ground”, a blade I bought in Bremen for fun around 1994 which I rediscoverd 2 years ago and which started the whole affection for old safety razors and straight razors blades. It is just not too sharp because it´s out of steel, so not my first choice.
Scharff & Kober I got from someone at the nassrasur community, it was sold as ready to shave, not too sharp but sharper than the Bismarck. Nice engraving on the blade and a more classic look.
The Tambour 41 by Robert Buntenbach. I got two of them at an antique shop in Ravensburg and they are like new. The engraving “Nachschliff Enslin” means that they have been at a master sharpener, Mr. Enslin to be sharpened or resharpened. They are the sharpest and get sharper after every shave and some treatment on the leather. Since both blades look like brand new I guess they have been sharpened and stocked but never really used. They both come from an old barber shop which closed down due to the age of the barber. The razor blade bag is also from the same source.
(If someone is interested on one of the Tambour´s I would trade it or sell it, make me an offer).

I swear I thought a  Red Wing 8103 recommended by Eric would be my next. But when I saw the above 8138 Red Wing even 1 size too small I had to buy it. This boot for about 80 Euros in nearly mint condition , no wear on the leather just a bit on the soles. Great patina, lighter brown at the toes getting darker to the heels.
I really wonder how he had worn them?
They came done with the laces for “step in” and tiny “loops”.
The denim color on the inside of the shoe tongues also puzzles me, does someone really wears his jeans really that high or inside the boot?
How can you leave so little marks on the leather, never any crawling home from a bar/nightclub?

They will be on Ebay soon or go to a friend with size 43, drop me a line
if you are interested. SOLD !
