Chestnut leather boots with felt – Santa Claus style:
Quite a while ago I´m hunting for this kind of boots now. Actually after my last years debut as Santa Claus for a family member. For one thing I´m really interested in how the comfort and control is with this kind of “no laces no buckles” boot is. And the other thing is to figure out how to get in and out.

This boot has probably the nicest brown patina I ever saw on a pair of shoes/boots. A wonderful brown color like a fresh opened chestnut. They got the old school wooden shoe nails on the sole and the horseshoe style reinforcement of the heel. The pull on loops are all broken, this might be the reason it´s impossible to get in right now for me. (the size seems to be ok). Would be too sad to sell them on Ebay, but I will give it a harder try later and hopefully I´m getting out again.

Thorogood Work American Heritage Moc Toe – after 1 year:

After I saw the very comprehensive article from Thomas – Denimhunters about the Thorogood Union made American work boots I decided to take some images of this boots I use now for 1 year at work. Thorogood / Weinbrenner boots are widely unknown in Europe and for a retail price of about 280 Euros hardly used/abused on work.

They have performed very well during this time. Getting hit by raisin and paint they get cleaned with aceton or sandpaper on a regular basis. Probably the resoling will be the first reason for a “repair” so no complaint by me and a real recommendation if you get them for a good price from the USA.

Here images of the boots after 3 month or when they were new.

Red Wings 9013 cycling:
Images were taken on my way to Konstanz (Ecke 32). Over the last few years I developed quite a dislike for stuff out of synthetic fibres. Some of my sportsstuff is still out of it, but I try to replace as much as I can and when it makes sense. The feeling of being static and the fact that nobody knows exactly what is in this fibres turns me more into cotton and wool (check the Woolpower stuff).

Im sick of cyclist hardly hitting the 20km mark and outfitted for a Tour de France race with stuff from Tschibo.  Anyway, the Red Wings 9013, Pike Brother Roamer pant, Tellason Topper denim shirt, and the smaller Swiss Army Backback proved well on a approx 70 km sunshine ride.

I was a bit jealous when Eric posted the images from his parcel he got from Japan today, but when I came home from work there was one for me as well.

Some weeks ago Chris from Damn Yak asked me if I´m interested in a deadstock pair of boots, made in Canada.  Before that mail I promised not to buy any more shoes/boots for a while. But his offer was more like a generous gift so I had to have them. Even they were labeled half a size too small I took them.

If they will be abused for work or have an easy life will be decided within the next weeks by wearing them in.

Chris, thanks a lot for the boots and the nice postcard. Even that we never met in person I know we would have a great time. Let´s see it might happen either in Canada or in Europe.

He made me this pouch a while a ago and brought my attention to the great swiss army backpacks.

Check his website – he is definitely one of the good ones!

Swedish army boots, brown from 1943

I got another fine pair of Swedish army boots, now in size 43 be-cause the others were a bit too big. This pair is not just 3 years older, they even got this nice print on the leather showing the crown and the 1943. They also got the loop to pull the boots on  and the color of the boot is a bit more darker. So perfect, can´t wait to give them a slim rubber sole and break them in.

Check also the images of the other one in size 44 (i would rate it as a 44,5 even a 45 when worn in)

I swear I thought a  Red Wing 8103 recommended by Eric would be my next. But when I saw the above 8138 Red Wing even 1 size too small I had to buy it. This boot for about 80 Euros in nearly mint condition , no wear on the leather just a bit on the soles. Great patina, lighter brown at the toes getting darker to the heels.
I really wonder how he had worn them?
They came done with the laces for “step in” and tiny “loops”.
The denim color on the inside of the shoe tongues also puzzles me, does someone really wears his jeans really that high or inside the boot?
How can you leave so little marks on the leather, never any crawling home from a bar/nightclub?

They will be on Ebay soon or go to a friend with size 43, drop me a line
if you are interested. SOLD !

This week I saw an auction with a fixed price about this boots and it was instantly sold, luckily the seller had another one and I was quicker this time.

The seller got this boots right out of an barn from a friend in Sweden.

Amazing craftsmanship and I guess after some wear and break in he will look awesome. The only thing which troubles me is the leather sole and the iron  parts on it. See the image of the heel, it has a iron rim like a horseshoe. I think about putting a rubber sole onto them, what do you think?

I managed to get some more of this boots, a model from 1943 a bit different design,  leather and I modified it now with a rubber sole.

The only reference I could find about a similar boot is:
Swedish army boot from 1943 on Fedora Lounge.

If you are interested in this boot, check this seller on ebay.

Received these nice boots about 3 month ago and using them mostly outdoors an now since a couple of weeks on work with the boats they had to withstand a lot. As a friend from Damn yak says “treat them like you hate them”, they will only look better. Check out their look when they were new and decide for yourself. Thorogood boots new.
