Last weekend I had the chance to drive this true beauty. The images I took do not match this boat by any standart but it rained and the weather was shitty so that is my excuse. I hope we will meet again. Pedrazzini is building boats since 1914 and only some are made every year so they are indeed a rarity.

I basically saved this pilot jacket some years ago to be thrown away. At this time I actually had no clue about it. This sheepskin jacket comes from my girlfriends family. Her grandfather a german pilot in WW2 probably traded it with an USAAF pilot (for his flight jacket?). It was a well kept secret be-cause my plan was to get it restored by Aeroleather (via Burkhard Plug – Gasoline Alley) and give it to my girlfriend Maria. The leather broke at the neck/colar for about 15 cm. Just last week I checked her size and the jacket is way too large for her.

So shall I put it on sale?
Get it restored and keep it for my unborn son or daughter?

With size 38 now way I will ever fit in, too bad! Probably the first time I wish I would be a bit smaller.

Finally my first Red Wing Oxford, a 3112. I was close to 100% sure its a Red Wing 8103. The 3112 from 05/2005 in no longer produced as I could find out. The differences are the logo print on the heel of the shoe, the different pattern of the sole, the more cushioned rim of the heel,  the red red wing logo on the sole and thanks to Eric, only a single line of stitching not two for attaching the shoe with the soles. He also mentioned that this shoe is from the former working boots collection which was only available in the US.

The shoe is nearly new with the original box and the leaflets from red wing. For me it looks like this shoe was much more difficult to produce, except from the double line of stitches. So i´m still in decision to sell it and buy a 8103 in 10 1/2. Or to break this kind of deadstock shoe in.

Can someone please make some comment about a difference of the leather ?
Is it also a “Oro Russet Portage Leather” with the same thickness as the 8103?

Brass Zippo be-fore being feinschmucked

Yesterday I got two brass Zippo lighters ready to be treated by Feinschmuck, let´s see what they can turn them into. I´ll keep you updated as soon as they got their hands on them. I noticed the security warning on the lighter, hmm I have to get my old one but I´m pretty sure thats a new clue – yes a burning flame is hot and fuel spilled hands might burn as well – oh my god!

First test with putting some patina on the Zippo has been done, check the result here.

Having already seen images from some comrades who already received Wouter´s great merchandise set I tried to mail him yesterday morning – but I was late and had to hurry for work. So it was quite a surprise when I saw his letter the same day pinned to my door. I wish him all the best for his site and projects and I´m sure what I´ve already seen there is no worry. A great example to how to do a “mailing” right. Love every piece of it, the stamps, the handwriting, the ink, the anchors, the pin …

Combining traveling with friends, meeting friends in Milano and having the Salone furniture fair with all its exhibitions and events around is a sure bet for a great weekend. Weather was fine as well, snow on the San Bernardino but as more we approached Milano it got warmer and warmer.  We were welcomed with some great wines and homemade pasta & vongole and the evening went quite into the morning. Next day we headed to the Lambrate area where you mostly see young designers and students showing their work to the world. A great vibe with amazing architecture and a great mix of exhibited objects. The Sea Chair Project and the works of Sander Mulder were the most memorable to me. Later that day we went to the Brera district for some shopping and due to the fact that you just have to look out for the read flags you can find art as much as you have capacity there as well. Milano is very special and you can find too much interesting stuff everywhere so I just posted some random images of the whole trip. Just one great last advice – save some money for the shopping in one of the Italian supermarkets before heading home – hmm awesome stuff as well. Hard to believe that just 3,5 hours southwards the food, fruits and vegetables are such at a different level …
