The small and family run Montfort Mühle in Langenargen was mostly my source for the flour of my bread. Unfortunately the mill needs an overhaul but due to lack of funds they stopped the mill. A college stepped in also from the region the Stelzenmühle. A sad story wich shows how hard it is to survive with “products” which need taste and understanding for a higher price as from a discounter. Already the amount of small bakerys in my area dropped to two, which was around ten only 20 years ago.

Even knowing that the mill is out of service I decided to ride my bike for about 12km one way to load my bigger Swiss Army Backpack with 20kg of flour. I think it is important to support this small run business.

It was worth it check out the result from this fine flour – what a loaf of bread!

After about 2 month of constant wear of the Tellason chore coat, now called Tellason Coverall jacket I have to say it performs very well. The big tool or utility pockets are perfect to store gloves, dust masks and other stuff. The seams, pockets, denim and rivets are all without any damage. As you can see on the images, I´m right handed by the marks of the grey nautic paint. Thanks again to Amtraq & Tellason for the “donation”.

Here the earlier post about the Tellason Chore coat / Tellason Coverall jacket.

Nothing better than the smell of fresh baked bread and fresh rosted coffee! I use the whirley pop popcorn maker for roasting the beans. About 250g of beans for 25-30 minutes at scale 7 from 9 on my oven plate with a constant turn on the “whirler” and shaking the pot. Start with less beans, just enough to just 1-2 layers of beans in the pot, too much and they never get ready in time. Avoid to get the beans burned, thats what the shaking and “whirling” is for. Constant checking is needed so they do not get to black and turn into coal pieces.

After one to 3 days fermentation is done and the best time to make some espresso! If you can not wait, it´s ok to have one straight after.

Accompanied with some fresh baked bread with the out of the pot and no knead dough method a great start for a long weekend.

Snowshoe hiking – soon !

Snowshoe hiking – soon!
Snow is there and a long weekend, let´s see how it is up there. These images are from an unforgettable trip 2 years ago, just before christmas me and 3 friends decided to hike up to the Heilbronner Hütte.

It all looks so nice but the last 3 hours walking at about 1800m to 2500m in about -25 are missing. Just one word, 10m before the hut I took a break for some minutes to walk the rest.

The weather the other day was amazing, a great trip to remember be-cause all went well after all.

Some basic advice:
– check the weather forecast!
– be early (6pm it´s dark)
– stuff fluids close to the body if -25 or lower
– food has to be prepared and ready to eat even with gloves on (no brotzeit syle)
– above 2000m weather can always turn bad
– make sure everybody has got a good sleeping bag to survive outside at these temp.

Thorogood Work American Heritage Moc Toe – after 1 year:

After I saw the very comprehensive article from Thomas – Denimhunters about the Thorogood Union made American work boots I decided to take some images of this boots I use now for 1 year at work. Thorogood / Weinbrenner boots are widely unknown in Europe and for a retail price of about 280 Euros hardly used/abused on work.

They have performed very well during this time. Getting hit by raisin and paint they get cleaned with aceton or sandpaper on a regular basis. Probably the resoling will be the first reason for a “repair” so no complaint by me and a real recommendation if you get them for a good price from the USA.

Here images of the boots after 3 month or when they were new.
